Song of Storms
The thunder rolled and the noise jolted me awake from my sleep. I turned to the window and watched the rain pelt the window and the yellow flashes of lightning in the sky. If I was quiet enough, I could hear the soft cries and light patter of feet flying towards my door. Slowly, I slipped my legs over the side of the large bed and slowly walked out of the room and down the hallway. The flashes of light threw shadows on the walls. I stopped outside a door that was well worn with opening, closing, and slamming. I gently pressed my palm against the wood and the memories came flooding back. This used to be America's room as a child, when he first came under my charge. I let my hand run against the smooth, even grains. I hadn't spoken to the American in a few days since his birthday. I couldn't. I knew the pain I caused and it was better that way. At least I thought so.
